Entertainment
not just a song and dance.

Congratulations!
You've decided to finally join hands in Holy matrimony. The date is
set and you have an idea of who might be in the wedding party, but
now what? Usually, the decision on where to have the ceremony and reception
comes next. Will the ceremony be at a church or chapel, or maybe outdoors
under a gazebo? How about the reception? Will you need a larger banquet
hall or would you prefer a more private Inn? Of course, your budget
will be a big deciding factor on a lot of these decisions and you should
decide on where you want to focus your budget. Besides finding a "place",
you also need to decide on your entertainment, photography and/or videography,
flowers, invitations, honeymoon destination, "who's sitting next
to who" and what color tablecloths look good with your lavender
bridesmaids' dresses. Overwhelmed yet? Most people usually are and,
because of that, make some quick decisions and sometimes regret them
after the fact. One thing is true;
you get what you pay for.
This holds true especially for your entertainment, specifically your DJ. Many
people don't realize the importance of the entertainment factor at a wedding.
It can make or break a great reception. The DJ you choose is a direct reflection
on you. Here are some important factors to help you choose the right Disc Jockey
Service for your special event.
First of all, many reputable and experienced DJ Services are booked far in
advance, so inquire about services as soon as a date and place are set. Prompt
return of your phone calls or E-mails is important and you should expect to
get a call back at least within 24 to 48 hours.
The DJ should be willing to meet with you at a mutually convenient time if
he has an office or at least be able to send out a packet of information. The
packet should include a planner for the day, some sort of music lists, and
information about the DJ and Service along with rates and packages. Make sure
the DJ has experience performing at weddings and always, ALWAYS make sure he
has a written contract stating all the important information.
Equipment and appearance are two more important factors in choosing a DJ. Professional
grade equipment should be used and encased cleanly. The DJ should also wear
appropriate attire, not necessarily a tuxedo, but at least a shirt and tie
unless otherwise told by you.
If you decide to choose a particular DJ, find out if you will be able to meet
again a few weeks before the wedding to decide on specialty songs, introductions,
and fill out the wedding-day planner. Another very important point is to make
sure you know exactly who will show up to perform. Sometimes there is more
than one DJ in larger DJ Service companies. Make sure the person you meet with
will be the person who performs at your wedding before signing any contracts.
Besides these important points, there are also a few other questions that should
be asked: Is it a full-time DJ Service (or at least perform on a regular basis)?
Is
the DJ Service insured, just in case?
Is there back-up equipment available,
again just in case?
Does the DJ take requests?
Does the DJ offer
additional services such as lighting, party props, or Karaoke (some people
want these at their wedding!)?
What type of a money retainer is needed
and when final payment is due?
Last but not least, do you LIKE the person that you chose to DJ at your wedding?
Choosing the person who "feels" right is the most important factor
in hiring the right entertainer for your wedding reception. The DJ you choose
should make you feel comfortable and have your full trust that the wedding
day will go smoothly.
